Our work has been recognised by many governments and foundations:
In 2002, to mark the School of Civic Education’s 10th Anniversary, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Dr. Walter Schwimmer, awarded it the Council’s special medal Pro Merito.
In 2003 the British government awarded an OBE to the School’s co-founder and director, Lena Nemirovskaya.
In 2006 Lena Nemirovskaya was awarded the Hiroshima Foundation Award for Peace and Culture.
In 2008 Lena Nemirovskaya became an Officer of the French National Order of Merit.
In 2010 Lena Nemirovskaya was awarded a Polish Medal Bene Merito and in 2014 she was made a Chevalier of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
In 2023 Lena Nemirovskaya was awarded the Moscow Helsinki Group annual award for contributions to human rights and the Russian human rights movement.
