The publishing programme of the School of Civic Education has been an integral part of the School since its inception, and has produced over the years a substantial library of the most important works on democracy, the rule of law, social order, political philosophy, peacemaking and civic life. It includes original works by sociologists, historians, philosophers, political thinkers, economists, and journalists, as well as original translations, and is dedicated to preserving and disseminating the humanitarian knowledge that has been developed and cultivated within the School’s ecosystem over the years. At a time when democratic values, human rights, and civic freedoms are under unprecedented pressure, ensuring access to this body of knowledge is more critical than ever.

The School’s publishing programme galvanizes attention towards socially relevant causes and individuals capable of navigating complex processes. By fostering a common understanding of solutions to global challenges and promoting modern and effective approaches to accountability, dialogue, civic coexistence, and peacebuilding, the School’s publishing programme aspires to play a pivotal role in shaping a future characterized by informed civic engagement and enlightened leadership.

The variety of published books showcases not only the main currents of contemporary thought but also the diverse viewpoints of a multitude of civic and political actors from both Europe and the post-Soviet region. The themes explored within the programme align closely with those addressed in the School’s seminars, creating a cohesive and mutually reinforcing educational experience.

Today when we witness the the disintegration of the international system, the crisis of international law, human rights, the decline of democracy and many structures collapsing and losing touch and civic support due to bureaucratisation and misunderstanding of values, it is crucial to preserve and disseminate the main achievements of humanitarian and intellectual thought on how societies can be organized and advanced to a more informed and enlightened level.

We can make a difference in preserving humanities knowledge, to prevent it from collapsing with the impending crisis, to make this knowledge more accessible, visible, applicable to political leaders, civil society leaders and a wider audience.
