This Levada-Centre study is dedicated to the task of analysing the conditions of formation, current state and potential of civil society in Russia. By identifying the hierarchy of common semantic waymarks in representatives of various groups and strata of the country’s population, their attitude to the common values of ethics, political and legal culture, and civic consciousness, this work paints a dynamic socio-political picture of Russian society. The study is based on extensive materials of the pan-Russian sociological survey conducted by the Centre in June 2007, in comparison with the data of earlier surveys of public opinion in the country.
