Nowhere in the world have civic education and historical experience been so thoroughly intertwined as in Russia. The past is the identity given by history, the symbolic capital of the nation, the understanding of the present, and an insightful look into the future. It was in the nineteenth century that all the main philosophical approaches to historical-civic education were formulated, and the main methodological positions, whose significance has not weakened to the present day, were outlined. The book is divided into three chronological periods, each of which examines the ideas of the main «heroes» of the era, including Karamzin, Pushkin, Uvarov, Speransky, Belinsky, Chaadayev, Kireyevsky, Herzen, Solovyov, Tolstoy, Lavrov and Klyuchevsky.
The book is intended for all those interested in the history of civic education in Russia and the ideological legacy that our time has inherited from the founding fathers of Russian Renaissance.
