The name of Yanuariy Mikhailovich Neverov has undeservedly been forgotten in modern Russia. Yet he was one of the most brilliant pedagogues-humanists and educators of XIX century. A close friend of N. Stankevich and T. Granovsky, he was known and highly appreciated by N. Gogol, I. Turgenev, V. Belinsky, A. Herzen and other prominent intellectuals of that era.
Ya. Neverov gained special fame and gratitude of his contemporaries and descendants through his action in the field of public education, in particular in Stavropol land. Here, his innovative pedagogical ideas of spiritual and moral development of children, the creation of a favourable environment in the school for the acquisition of civilisation skills and ideals were particularly well implemented.
