How to live in a world where evil is no longer hidden but on display? Is a universal language possible today that can speak about suffering? What is defamiliarization and how can it restore our ability to see? And is there any hope at all for a world where even human rights have become conditional? This was discussed by Marcy Shore, a researcher of Eastern European history and professor at the University of Toronto, at the School of Civic Education forum «In Search of Lost Universalism.»
