Ambassador Francis O’Donnell

Diplomat; Life Member of the Institute of International and European Affairs (Dublin)

Ambassador Francis M. O’Donnell is a member of the Peacemaking Reflection Group of former senior UN system officials convening under the auspices of the Foundation for Global Governance and Sustainability. He is also a Life Member of the Institute of International and European Affairs and the Military History Society of Ireland, both under the patronage of the President of Ireland.

He served as a United Nations official for 32 years, his last postings being as Resident Coordinator (designated representative of the UN Secretary-General), respectively in F.R.Yugoslavia (Serbia & Montenegro), and lastly in Ukraine (2004−2009).

Following his UN retirement, he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sovereign Order of Malta accredited to the Slovak Republic from 2009 to 2013. In more recent years, he served as advisor to the Global Partnerships Forum (New York) and as strategic advisor to Nonviolent Peaceforce (Brussels).

He is a published author and speaker on historical, humanitarian and geo-political matters, and has appeared in various international media and TV outlets.
