Pavlov has worked on many high-profile cases related to freedom of expression and political rights in Russia. In addition to his legal work, Pavlov is a vocal critic of the Russian government’s human rights record and its treatment of political dissidents. He has been arrested and detained several times for his activism, including in April 2021 when he was charged with leaking classified information. Pavlov denies the charges and his arrest has been widely condemned by human rights organizations and foreign governments. Pavlov’s work has been recognised both nationally and internationally. In 2020, he was awarded the Moscow Helsinki Group Human Rights Award, and in 2021 he was nominated for the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.
