Polish journalist and dissident Adam Michnik, one of the leaders of the Solidarity trade union that brought democratic change to Poland three decades ago, spoke at a seminar at the School in Warsaw together with sociologist and director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Warsaw Sławomir Sierakowski. While Michnik spoke about where he got his optimism for the future in dark times and why the Polish democratic tradition remains weak, Sierakowski spoke about contemporary Poland, historical determinism and the importance of small deeds.
