In the past thirty years, he has held multiple research positions and professorships in Germany, Italy and Finland, and in 2004−2020 he was Professor and Associate Dean at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. His latest books include a prize-winning Return of the Russian Leviathan (Polity Press, 2020, translated into 12 languages), A War Made in Russia (Polity Press, 2023), and the forthcoming Biopower in Putin’s Russia (CEU Press, 2024).
